Philips TX400 television set

Sometimes, I also buy a TV set for my project.

I find recently this old TV set. This is the first commercial television receiver from Philips, in the late 40's. It comes into my collection in december 2007. I've just check if it's complete or not. The total renewing will be later... I prepare the work by making my capacitor replacement list, and order it. Yes, all the black capacitors are a big source of problems, I will replace all of them, and also the smoothing capacitors. I guess there is a lot of work in this appliance!

TX400

After removing the cover, we discover the frame and the small round CRT tube. I've been surprised to see the CRT tube, thinking it was destroyed inside ! In fact, I've seen the system inside looking like out-of-shape, regarding to the glass... But it's a tube with ion trap, and this organisation is logical! It's my first TV like this... :-)

The frame, right side. The plug and cables going to deflexion unit is visible. We can also see a repair with a «mustard» capacitor, more recent than the unit.

The EHT unit.

From the bottom view, with mains and antenna plugs. This system use the mains voltage, simply rectified and smoothed. No transformer! Meaning there is the mains voltage on the metallic frame, like in universal radios. This is dangerous ! Antenna and ground plugs are insulated by means of capacitors.

TX400

Other side of the frame, with the channel selector and first RF amplifier tubes. Only 4 stations ! It was really the beginning of the television broadcasting...

Fuses and ID plate.

Under the frame. We can see old repairs...

Of course, this TV set will be repaired, I wish to see the images ! Pictures and explanations will be add on this page when I will start the works !
